WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE? HOW DOES IT WORK?
Acupuncture is a medicine system with its roots in China, and has been used for centuries to help pain, illness, and injury, as well as to maintain overall health. Science tells us that our bodies use electrical energy to keep our hearts beating and our neurons firing. Chinese medicine refers to that same energy as “qi”. Acupuncture uses specific points on the body to help ensure the free-flow of this qi, as well as blood and other fluids, which helps our bodies facilitate healing.
WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?
Acupuncture can treat many conditions, ranging from recent injuries to long-standing pain and illness. Common conditions include: allergies, anxiety/depression, arthritis/joint pain, colds and flu, fatigue, gastrointestinal (GI) issues, headache/migraine, musculoskeletal pain, PMS symptoms, side effects of medication or chemotherapy, sports injuries, and stress. Feel free to contact us with any questions regarding your specific condition or complaint.
WHAT MIGHT I EXPERIENCE DURING A TREATMENT?
Acupuncture needles are about as thin as a human hair, and patients report feeling “warm”, “tingling”, or even “heavy” sensations throughout their bodies during a treatment. A "twitch" feeling, like a muscle spasm, is often experienced during muscle-releasing techniques. If ever a sensation is too strong or uncomfortable, your acupuncturist can make adjustments for your needs.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The amount of treatments needed depends on your condition: a new injury may take only a few sessions, but a chronic or long-term situation may require more treatments to see results.
